Finding the little joys

On Sunday, I spent the afternoon by the sea. I put my phone away, felt the sun on my face, the wind on my skin. I saw a beautiful, little shell and picked it up. And then another one, and another one. I kept collecting different shells in all kind of sizes and shapes. I felt like a child. Playing on the beach. Without watching the time, without rush.

The day before I met with close friends who have a little daughter. We went to the playground and she was having so much fun going down the slide over and over again. A girl started sliding with her and they quickly made a game out of that. They were both laughing a lot. Other kids were playing with other toys or just running around, everyone was friendly with the other children. If you haven’t been on a playground for a while, I recommend you to stop at the next one you see and just observe the kids for 5 minutes. I’m pretty sure it’s enough to (at least) make you smile, probably even laugh.

Kids are a lot more focused on playing and finding joy in the little things, they don’t need a lot to have a good time.
As adults we are (usually) more focused on “To Do’s”, goals, results, responsibilities…

It feels so good to just forget about that sometimes. And it feels so great to do something where you completely forget about the time.

No matter whether it’s collecting shells, creating art with your hands with whatever material you can find, playing a game you love, maybe even going on the swing at the playground, … don’t worry about what others will think and just connect to that feeling of happiness. Get completely lost in the moment.

If you focus on the little things, you will find joy very easily.
